Fiery tattooist Ben Seed lost his temper and was determined to leave his mark... on two police officers, five doors, a fridge, a mirror and a lamp.

The 24-year-old blew his top after visiting an ex-lover at her home in Ramsgate in July, demanding to know why their affair had ended.

Canterbury Crown Court heard former girlfriend Chantelle Cruz was so frightened she locked herself in a bedroom at the house in Bathurst Road she shared with two children.

But when police officers Adrian Jones and Karl Charnick arrived to help, they were attacked by the furious tattoo artist.

He grabbed one of the officers around the neck so tight, the policeman "feared he might lose consciousness", the court heard.

During the bust-up, Seed, of Athelstone Road, Cliftonville, caused £1,600 of damage after smashing doors and other property.

Defence barrister John O’Higgins said Seed, who admitted criminal damage and assaulting two officers while resisting arrest, had since paid £1,000 to have the damage repaired.

But the Judge, Recorder Peter Morgan, told him: "During the course of an argument with your ex-partner you smashed a door to the room where she was hiding. And you then damaged a fridge, mirror and lamp.

"All this happened while two children, aged four and two, were in the house. And this was not the first time you have appeared in court for offences of violence.

"It is the duty of the courts to protect people in their own homes – and protect police officers in the execution of their duties."

Seed was given a four-month jail sentence - suspended for a year - and ordered to perform 120 hours' unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay the two officers £400 in compensation.
