Talking point: should we kill our speed to save lives?

Would you be prepared to drive 10 mph slower in residential areas in Kent?

Kent Green Party is advocating the introduction of 20mph speed limits in all built-up areas in the county and we want to know what you think about it.

The party argues this will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Chair Dr Hazel Dawe said: "A big plus in reducing speed limits across Kent and Medway is we could reduce speeds without having to put in expensive road humps that damage vehicles and delay emergency vehicles.

"Also 20 mph zones have reduced accidents and injuries. A survey of the introduction of 20mph zones across the UK and in Europe found child road accidents declined by 67 per cent and cyclist accidents went down by 29 per cent.

"A 20mph limit would encourage people to walk and cycle more. Changing short car trips into walking trips would help tackle both the problems of obesity and climate change."
