A halt to airport expansion across Kent is being called for by Kent’s Green Party.

They have asked for the action to bring the government in line with its own targets on climate change.

Chair of the party Dr Hazel Dawe has contacted all of Kent's MPs calling upon them to urge an end to airport expansion at Rochester, Manston and Lydd as well as at Heathrow.

The party is putting an Early Day Motion (EDM) through Parliament asking the government to rethink its plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport.

What do you think? Should plans to expand airports in Kent be put on hold?

She said: “This has become urgent in the light of the need to reduce CO2 emissions, air and noise pollution.

“The EDM asks the government to examine the possibility of high speed rail as an alternative to all domestic flights.

“With the downturn in the air passenger industry I am asking Kent MPs if they feel these issues mean additional capacity at Rochester, Manston or Lydd or an airport in the Thames Estuary as proposed by Mayor of London Boris Johnson are now redundant.

"Kent Green Party believes the Kent airports should become leisure facilities to improve domestic tourism opportunities in Kent and Medway."
