A doctor from Swanley has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possessing indecent images.

Dr Barend Delport resigned after reports of photos being taken of his patients at The Oaks Surgery, in Swanley.

The GP has been banned from practising until an investigation is complete.

Kent Police said officers had offered support to Dr Delport's patients.

A spokesman said: "A 54-year-old man has been arrested by police and has been released on bail until November 30 whilst the investigation continues.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images and sexual assault."

NHS Kent and Medway has written to all patients registered with the Oaks Surgery who were seen by Dr Delport.

The letter stated that "concerns have been raised about some care given by Dr Delport, including photographs taken by him".

An NHS Kent and Medway spokesman said: "In the letter, NHS Kent and Medway has informed patients that concerns have been raised about some care given by one of the doctors, Dr Barend Delport, who has since resigned."

Patients with concerns can phone a confidential NHS helpline on 0800 9233535. It is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.
