Lidl launches £1.49 fizz in a can and 85p Finton's canned gin for May bank holiday weekend

A supermarket has launched a £1.49 sparkling wine in a can, which is hitting the shelves ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

Lidl says with warmer weather hopefully on the horizon and people spending an increasing amount of time eating and drinking outside because of coronavirus restrictions, it believes its latest product release is ideal for customers' al fresco experiences.

Parks, picnic spots and private gardens are expected to be full of friends and families this weekend making the most of the three-day weekend and the relaxation in rules that allows for two households or six people to get together outside.

And whilst the current bank holiday weather forecast is not looking as warm and sunny as we'd all hope, the low-cost supermarket believes its new range of summery drinks will add some sparkle to garden get-togethers regardless.

The supermarket chain, which has stores across Kent, has created two sparkling wine cans - Canned Secco Italiano White and Canned Seccco Italiano Rosé. Each can is available in Lidl stores now for £1.49 each.

Whilst fans of Lidl's gin range may also be pleased to know that its Finton's Canned Gin is also making a return to shelves ahead of the summer. Shoppers can choose from Special London Dry Gin & Tonic, costing 85p, or Pink Gin & Tonic with Grapefruit, costing 89p, to pack with their picnics this summer.

Lidl is not the only food store making some big bank holiday offers in anticipation of people filling their diaries with outdoor meet-ups.

Tesco has also announced a bumper range of bank holiday offers on both its barbecue food and equipment, saying that come rain or shine over the next few days, it is anticipating shoppers will opt for cooking outside in order to spend time with their loved ones.

Buckingham Palace has announced it will allow picnics on its lawns for the first time ever this summer. Read more about the plans, and how to get tickets, here.
