A punishing fitness schedule led to Eastchurch athlete Kate Richman coming fifth out of 244 in the London Triathlon.

Kate, of Leef Close, swam 400m, rode a bike for 10km and finished off with a 2.5km run.

She hopes to raise at least £500 from the event for McMillan Cancer Support because all four of her grandparents needed the care of McMillan nurses.

The 27-year-old, who went to Minster College, said: “I work at a solicitors in Chatham but have always enjoyed keeping fit. I used to play a lot of rugby for Sheppey, Kent and then for university – and I still go to the gym regularly. I was training six days a week prior to the triathlon including swimming in Leybourne Lakes near Snodland.

“I would then do weight training after work but it was all well worth it and I was delighted to come fifth.”
