Sunday March 22: Labour gears up for KCC elections

The opposition Labour group at County Hall will unveil its election manifesto for the KCC June elections tomorrow (Monday 23).

I'll be posting a story about the various pledges and commitments online tomorrow.

I have no doubt party chiefs will be striking a defiantly upbeat message about their prospects in the rather incongruous setting of the Holiday Inn at Ashford but the party - on the strength of the national polls - suggest they are in for a tough time.

It will be interesting to see if they can field candidates across the county in all 84 divisions, which I suspect they will not.

I haven't had a sneak preview of what will be in the manifesto but I am confidently predicting two key commitments: one will be to scrap "Kent TV", the enduringly controversial county council internet TV station; the second to ditch KCC's "Healthwatch" scheme which Labour feels duplicates a similar Government initiative.
