Snow turns Kent white

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

Arctic temperatures and a layer of snow left Kent resembling a winter wonderland on Monday.

The prolonged frozen spell transformed parts of the county into a whiteout, with some roads difficult to pass.

Schools reporting closures on Monday were:

• Stansted CofE Primary School near Sevenoaks

• Dame Janet Infant School, Ramsgate • Silverbank Park in Chatham

• Bradfields School, Chatham

• Walderslade Girls School, Chatham

• Greenacre School, Chatham

• Robert Napier School, Third Avenue, Gillingham

• Elaine Avenue Primary School, Strood - closed due to heating problems.

An accident on the M20 coastbound between Maidstone and Ashford closed two lanes during the early morning.

Weather pundits predict the cold spell will continue, with sub-zero temperatures lasting into the middle of the week.

Meanwhile, nationally, more than 2,500 motorists had to call out the AA every hour.

It was because of the mix of cold temperatures, icy roads, and cars that hadn't been started for a fortnight.

The organisation is expecting to help 16,000 motorists by the end of the day.
