A severe weather warning has been issued for Kent today with strong winds set to batter the county.

Forecasters say gusts could reach more than 50 miles per hour in some areas of the region throughout the day.

The high winds from the south west are expected to eventually ease during this evening.

The Met Office said people, an especially motorists, should take extra care amid the wind warning.

Anyone hoping for a return to summer in Kent for the weekend shouldn't fire up the barbecue just yet.

Forecasters are predicting overcast weather on Saturday, with rain expected on Sunday and highs of 18C.
