Schoolboy car driver killed in crash with bus

POLICE have released the name of a car driver who suffered fatal injuries when his vehicle was involved in a crash with a bus in a Kent village.

He was Daniel Hughes, 17, from Brenchley, a pupil at Skinners School, Tunbridge Wells.

The emergency services were called at around 10.35am on Tuesday to the B2026 Hartfield Road at Cowden, near Edenbridge, where a blue Fiat Punto and a Metro service bus had been in collision.

The bus driver and four other people were injured. One woman was taken by Kent air ambulance to Maidstone Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The other injured people were taken by road ambulance to the Kent and Sussex Hospital at Tunbridge Wells.

The road was closed at the junction with Bloomers Hill and at the junction with Spode Lane while the emergency services, including Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the incident. The road was re-opened shortly after 4pm.

Police would like to hear from witnesses to the incident or anyone who saw the vehicles in the area at the time of the collision.
