School needs your vote for lottery win

A Medway school needs your help to win a £50,000 lottery windfall.

Spinnens Acre Junior School in Lordswood needs the cash to build a woodland cabin that will be used by wildlife enthusiasts of all ages.

Pupils and staff at have been busy raising funds for the project over the past two years but are hoping the People’s Millions lottery fund will help seal the deal.

If the school is lucky enough to get the money, following a TV lottery special being broadcast next week, the cabin will be used as a base for learning about the environment.

Activities could also include bug hunting, woodland walks, activity days, studying wildlife plus talks and presentations.

The school will feature on ITV Meridian at 6pm on Monday, November 24 when it will go head to head with a rival community project.

Viewers will be shown video footage about each project before being given a number to call to place their vote for the project they think deserves the money most.

It will also appear on the Big Lottery fund website and the school’s own website.

Phone lines open at 9am on the day the show is broadcast, and close at midnight.

The school will find out the result on ITV Meridian at 6pm the next day.

Clair Wilkins, the school’s business manager, said: “The cabin will offer pupils, the wider community and wildlife enthusiasts the opportunity to observe and photograph wildlife including nesting birds, hedgehogs and insects.

“Winning the People’s Millions will provide us with a really big chunk of the estimated £80,000 needed to complete the project.

“We need everyone in Medway to vote for us.”

Calls will cost 10p per call from a BT landline, calls from other networks may vary and calls from mobiles will be considerably more.

After operating costs have been recouped any remaining phone revenue will be donated to charity.
