It’s only just the end of August but two managers have already lost their jobs and we face one of the clubs who parted company with their boss, this weekend.

As I’ve said before, football is one of those jobs when a phone call can change your life in an instant. But you can’t let it affect you when you’re in a job. You have to do your best to get results and performances, and move the club forward.

It’s disappointing for John Sheridan. I know him and he is a good man but I’m sure he will move on from this.

It’s always difficult to comment as you don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes, what has been asked of the manager, or even what the manager has asked of the board.

It’s never an easy time for anyone to lose their job but that’s the world we live in in football. It’s not easy to accept but you have to and try to get back in the game.

Whether his sacking affects the performance or team selection for Chesterfield this weekend, I’m not sure.

We’ve done our homework and have some ifs and maybes in mind for what they might do but we need to make sure that we perform to our level.

We tell the players that it’s irrelevant what is in the other dressing room. We’ve got to perform to give ourselves the best chance of getting a positive result.

On Tuesday night, we acquitted ourselves well against a team who are two leagues above us and fancied to do well. We showed good character to stick to our game-plan. In the second half, if we had got one then we would have gone on to win the game.

When you are pushing for an equaliser then sometimes you can get hit on the counter. Under lights, the atmosphere was fantastic and the fans stayed with us right to the end. We got a standing ovation and that says everything about the performance and effort we put in.

We start our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy campaign at Crawley on Tuesday and it’s a competition we are taking seriously.

It’s a fantastic prize to play a final at Wembley, plus winning any game and performing well becomes a habit.

It’s certainly one we want to keep getting into.
