Sam Northeast hit a career-best 176 for Kent last week as they thrashed Loughborough MCCU by an innings and 70 runs inside two days at St Lawrence.

Northeast hit 23 fours and two sixes in his 237-ball innings, which helped Kent declare on 450-7 toward the end of day one.

Kent promptly skittled the students out for 127 and 253 to complete a morale-boosting victory.

Northeast, who was captaining a youthful Kent side in the absence of Rob Key, put on 116 for the second wicket with debutant Daniel Bell-Drummond (80) and 129 for the third wicket with Alex Blake (65). James Goodman chipped in with 56 as Kent scored their runs at nearly five an over.

Matt Coles took four wickets with the new ball at the end of day one, leaving Loughborough 24-4 overnight, and went on to claim 5-29. Neil Saker and Robbie Joseph both took two wickets.

Kent found the going tough second time around, Loughborough reaching 125-1 and then 178-3 before the collapse set in.

Teenager Adam Riley came to the fore, taking 5-76, while Joseph again took two wickets.
