Maidstone United gave themselves a major boost with just their third win of the season at Ryman League Premier Division relegation rivals Hastings on Saturday.

The Stones fell behind when Alex Flisher lost possession near his own area on 25 minutes and the hosts crossed for Russell Eldridge to fire past the stranded Andy Walker.

However after a reshuffle and a change of formation at half-time the Stones recovered and Danny Hockton (pictured) struck the post with a 30-yard free-kick before the Stones equalised 18 minutes from time when Flisher's cross was headed in by Adrian Stone.

With the home side on the ropes the Stones snatched the points four minutes later when Flisher pulled the ball back for Hockton to smash into the net and take Maidstone fourth-bottom - one point behind Hastings and safety.

Folkestone Invicta fell to second-bottom after a 2-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Aveley.

The visitors opened the scoring on the half hour and were down to 10 men when James Everitt drew the hosts level around the hour mark with a close-range header following a goalmouth scramble.

However parity only lasted four minutes and the visitors held on to take the points.

Margate are just three places above the drop-zone after a shock 2-0 home defeat by basement-boys Croydon Athletic on Saturday.

Rams keeper Charlie Mitten rolled back the years and produced a number of fine saves to keep his former side at bay, while Shaun Welford hit the inside of the post for Gate.

Sub Danny Elgar eventually made the hosts pay with a low strike which beat Jamie Turner 14 minutes from time and Frankie Sawyer made matters worse seven minutes later when his low drive squirmed under Turner and rolled agonisingly over the the line.

Tonbridge Angels came from behind to secure a fine 2-1 at title-chasing Bury Town.

After a goalless first half the hosts took the lead 10 minutes into the second half, only for Jay May to draw the Angels level with 12 minutes remaining.

With a draw looking increasingly likely Tonbridge sub Rory Hill pounced three minutes into stoppage time to snatch the points for the visitors.

Tommy Warrilow's side sit eighth, but having played fewer games than many of the sides above them, and are well-placed to move into the playoffs.
