Runaway car damages vehicles

A LAND Rover rolled down a hill, smashing in to several parked cars before coming to a halt on its roof in the middle of a main road.

Firefighters from Strood were called to the wreckage in New Road, Rochester.

The vehicle had rolled from the top of Fort Pitt Hill all the way along the private, unmade road which runs alongside the Kent Institute of Art and Design.

Sub officer Lawrence Pater said: "We used a winch to get the vehicle back on to its wheels. It was also leaking petrol so we had to make sure the battery was disconnected to make the vehicle safe.

The incident happened just before 11pm on Friday. A spokesman for Medway Police said: "It is not known what caused the vehicle to roll, but no criminal intentions are suspected."
