Royal British Legion gets new county figurehead

THE new county president of the Royal British Legion in Kent is Lord Astor of Hever, great grandson of Field Marshall Earl Haig.

It was Earl Haig who founded the Royal British Legion in 1921.

The outgoing county president, Edwin Boorman, chairman of the Kent Messenger Group, last month received the OBE from the Queen for services to the organisation.

Mr Boorman said: "The Royal British Legion is all about the camaraderie one feels in the services carried over into civilian life."

Mr Boorman will continue his active involvement in the organisation and has been made a life vice-president.
