A man who scaled a Margate shop to mount a roof-top protest has been talked down.

He was spotted on top of Boots in the High Street at around 9.15am, shouting and holding up a sheet.

He is believed to have been protesting about a domestic issue.

Police negotiators spent more than three hours at the scene before the stand off came to a peaceful conclusion.

Several parts of Margate town centre, including the High Street, Cecil Square, Elephant Hill and Hawley Street, were closed off after the man threatened to jump.
