Robber terrifies staff at village Post Office

A ROBBER has made off with a large amount of cash from a village Post Office.

The raider smashed the glass in the counter window and threatened members of staff at the Post Office at Yalding near Maidstone.

The terrified staff handed over money and the offender made off on foot along Lees Road, towards the neighbouring village of Laddingford.

Maidstone and Malling Police spokesperson Gianna Pollero said the robbery was unusual for a quiet village like Yalding. She added: "I can imagine the proprietors were very shaken up by their ordeal. We will be liasing with them to check that we've got proper statements from them and to make sure they are getting all the support they need."

The robber is described as white, about 6ft 1ins tall, with ‘swarthy’ skin, and of heavy build. He was wearing a black woolly balaclava, a navy blue Nike jacket and beige trousers.

The raid happened on Thursday at about 4.45pm. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Maidstone Area Crime Unit at Maidstone and Malling Police on 01622 608189, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
