Robber flees with cash from bank

DETECTIVES are hunting a robber who walked into a high street bank and demanded money from staff before fleeing with an undisclosed sum of cash.

The incident happened at the branch of Lloyds TSB in Chatham, at around 5pm on Tuesday.

The man is described as being a white male, around 6ft tall with a local accent. He was wearing a fluorescent padded jacket, dark trousers and a dark woollen hat.

It is reported that the man was seen in the High Street prior to the robbery. After the offence it is thought he made off through the car park at the back of Debenhams and then into Clover Street and New Road where he removed his jacket to reveal a grey coloured top.

Det Insp John Coull, who is leading the enquiry, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the man fitting the description of the suspect, either before or after the robbery had taken place.

"We would also urge anyone who may have seen or located the discarded fluorescent jacket to contact police.

"I would also appeal to people who may know of anyone trying to tender a significant amount of Scottish, Irish or soiled currency to come forward."

Anyone recognises the description of the man or can help officers with the investigation, is asked to contact Kent Police in Medway on 01622 690690 or Kent CrimeStoppers, free and in confidence on 0800 555111.
