River body find 'not connected to Kingsnorth protest'

The body of a man has been found by the River Medway in Kent.

But police stressed that they did not believe the discovery was connected to Saturday's Climate Camp protests further downstream.

Kent Police say that they were contacted by concerned fisherman at 6.30am Saturday reporting a person in difficulty in the river close to Doust Way, Rochester.

Patrols, coastguards and the Police Marine Unit conducted a search and at around 9am the body of a man was found in mudflats.

Kent Police spokesman Jo Roberston said: "Investigations are underway into the death and his identity is yet to be confirmed."
