Richborough towers to be demolished

Plans to demolish the three cooling towers and chimney at Richborough power station have been submitted to Thanet District Council.

The 97m towers and 127m high chimney have not been used since 1996 and the power station has no need for them.

There has already been extensive demolition of buildings on the site over the last 15 years.

The application has been sent along to the council, together with an Environmental Impact Assessment.

But concerns have already been aired by the Environment Agency, Natural England, RSPB over the impact of the demolition on surrounding wildlife and potential pollution to the nearby River Stour.

Locals can have their say on the proposals up until October 28.
