Residents on an Ashford housing estate are threatening to 'name and shame’ dog owners who don’t clear up their pets’ mess.

And they’ve also taken matters into their own hands to stem the rising tide of dog dirt littering their neighbourhood.

Debate has been raging on the Godinton Park Community Info forum on Facebook over how to deal with the growing problem of dog owners allowing their pets to foul pavements and not clearing it up afterwards.

One member of the group has gone as far as to don rubber gloves to clear a particularly notorious area – known locally as Dog Poo Alley – from the offending mess.

Holly van der Beeck, 38 – like many others in the area – uses the alley to walk her son from their home in Mulberry Road to nearby Godinton Primary School.

She said: "I just got fed up and someone needed to do something about it, it’s a real health hazard.

"If any of the kids fall in it, they could get very sick."

"And I think it’s a good lesson to my son that in life you sometimes have to do things that you don’t like for the benefit of everyone."

Many people on the forum have praised Holly for her selfless act.

But such is the extent of the problem that some are calling for a campaign to 'name and shame’ offending dog owners, by publishing photos on the site of those caught in the act.

Liv Taylor-Fry added: "I cringe taking my kids that way and people for miles around can hear me shouting 'mind the poo’ at them with every step.

"We definitely need to watch, photo and shame the culprits."
