Reindeer bring touch of Christmas to Kent farm all year round

Pigs, sheep, cows and chickens: all creatures you would expect
to find on a Kent farm. So why is there a herd of reindeer
wandering near Bethersden?

More than 80 reindeer live at the Reindeer Centre on
Capralama Farm, enjoying what you could call an easy working
life.

Owner Sandra Fagg says they only have to work five weeks of the
year.

She said: "We hire them out to garden centres and town centres
for turning on the lights - but the rest of the time they come back
to being our family pets."

But it isn't as simple as it looks: she has to be very
careful about choosing what reindeer travel together.

She said:"Some are more social than others and you have to make
sure that he goes with her and she takes her little one with her.
They are a bit like children with all their bickering!

"Sometimes the little children are frightened of Father
Christmas, but they come here, see the reindeer, and they are well
made up!"
