Red Arrows flypast over London and Kent, including Strood and Sheppey cancelled

People’s hopes of catching a glimpse of the Red Arrows today were dashed after their appearance at an event was cancelled due to weather conditions.

The world-famous aerobatic display team was set to fly across the county this afternoon en route to the Defence and Security Equipment International event at the ExCeL exhibition centre in London Docklands.

However, a spokesman for the Red Arrows confirmed this did not go ahead due to the weather.

Officially known as The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows were set to be flying their regular Union Jack-inspired Hawk fast-jets.

The pilots were due to set off from their base at RAF Waddington in Lincoln at 11.50am on their way south towards London.

Their route was set to take them over Bromley, Strood and then Sheppey.

Founded back in 1964, there is no specific number of Red Arrows flypasts each year.

They are most likely to be seen in the summer months, meaning those able to catch a glimpse today will not likely be able to do so again in the county until next year.

The team, which performed at the Great North Run in Newcastle on Sunday, is to also perform at the Jersey International Air Show and the Guernsey Air Display on Thursday.

The Red Arrows were last in action in the county last month.

They soared over Kent following an appearance at the Folkestone Air Show on August 20.
