Rare metal thieves flee in stolen bus

A HAUL of rare metals and precision tool parts valued at around £50,000 have been stolen from African International Airlines at Manston Road in Ramsgate by thieves who made off in a getaway bus.

They entered the Eastonways bus and coach depot next door to the airline site, stole a bus, ripped out all the interior handrails, backed it onto the neighbouring land and loaded up.

The vehicle was later found abandoned at May Street in Herne Bay.

A police spokesman said: "The metals included scrap from aircraft and titanium and aluminium which are rare. Due to the size of the operation we believe that at least three men were involved."

The burglary happened on Tuesday, October 31, between 10.45pm and midnight.

Police have asked that any information about the theft or whereabouts of the metals be given to PC Andy Eley on 01843 222074.
