Raise a wee dram to Burns Night!

You don’t have to be Scottish to enjoy Burns Night and this Sunday it is a celebration worth toasting as it marks 250 years to the day since Scotland’s national poet was born.

Across the county the life and works of Robert Burns will be celebrated with traditional Scottish vigour.

Eden Valley Museum has drinks in the museum followed by a three course dinner and entertainment in Rickards Hall, with a licensed bar, on Friday. Tickets, £20, from The Edenbridge Book Shop, 79 High Street, from 01732 868102 or go to www.evmt.org uk

Hadlow Manor, near Tonbridge, has a three-course buffet menu for £25 per person on Friday. For an extra £25 per person, add bed and breakfast. Book on 01732 851442, quoting Heart of Kent Burns Night.

The Dover and East Kent Scottish Society holds its Burns Night dinner dance, at Dover Town Hall on Saturday, at 7.30pm, with music from Ian Shawcross. The Medway and District Caledonian Association’s Burns dinner dance is at the Stanley Ballroom, Chatham, on Saturday, with music from Green Ginger.

There’s a choice of haggis or braised steak at Acacia Hall, High Street, Dartford, on Saturday, from 8pm, with the Peter Elligate Show Band and the Sutherland Pipes and Drums. Tickets £24.50.

Inspired by both Burns Night and the Chinese New Year, Shepherd Neame holds a beer and food evening at the brewery in Faversham on Saturday. Tour the brewery, then enjoy a four-course dinner with food matched to Sun Lik Chinese lager, and a limited edition Burns Night Ale.
