Rainham to get a new hotel

Another hotel is being planned in the Medway Towns.

The latest is for a Premier Inn to be built alongside the Manor Farm Beefeater restaurant in Rainham, overlooking the A2.

It would be the town’s first purpose-built hotel for at least a century.

It will join plans for a four-star hotel on Rochester Riverside, a new one in Pier Road, Gillingham, forming part of the Victory pier transformation of the waterfront, a five storey hotel in Corporation Street, Rochester, and the recent opening of a Ramada Encore hotel in Chatham Maritime.

The latest news was greeted with delight by Medway Council’s cabinet member for strategic planning, Cllr Jane Chitty (Con).

She said: “One of Medway’s biggest problems is that we haven’t enough hotels and rooms.

“It’s been with us for years, and obviously limits the numbers we can attract to visit us.

“This is a very good sign, and indicates how much the hotel business recognises we have a lot to offer visitors.”
