Kent Spitfires' Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Durham Dynamos was abandoned without a ball bowled at Canterbury on Sunday.

Heavy rain throughout the morning had left huge puddles on the outfield at the St Lawrence Ground, and the decision of umpires Richard Kettleborough and Rob Bailey was only a formality when the game was officially called off at around 2pm.

It means new overseas signing Makhaya Ntini will now make his home debut in the four-day LV County Championship Division 1 match against Warwickshire which begins on Tuesday.

Kent look set to field the same 11 who were on duty against Lancashire last week as they look for their first win of the season.

Dewald Nel was due to see a specialist on Friday about his back problem, while Second XI wicket-keeper Paul Dixey is out with a broken finger, sustained in the game against Durham last week. Newcomer Ashley Shaw is nursing sore shins after bowling only four overs in the same game at Beckenham, which Kent lost by 201 runs.
