Probe into schoolgirl abduction bid claim

POLICE are investigating a possible abduction threat to a 12-year-old girl and her friend at a bus-stop last Thursday morning.

The girl, who is from Iwade, near Sittingbourne, told her mother she had been approached by a man claiming to be a bus driver and offering to take them to school when their expected bus had not arrived in the morning.

Inspector Steve Seabrook said: "The man showed a badge but the girl has a relative who works for the Kent County Council and recognised that it did not look the same and refused the lift.

"Our enquiries are ongoing but the man is described as white and wearing a blue shirt and body-warmer."
