Probe into Dreamland fire

FIREFIGHTERS spent about 60 minutes tackling a blaze at Dreamland at Margate on Sunday afternoon.

Crews from Margate fire station were in the middle of an exercise at the former Hain Hospital site when they got the call.

Sub officer Paul Ward said: “We could see the smoke from where we were so we knew we had a job from there.

"When the crews arrived they found the Waltzer on fire. It was made of fibreglass so there was lots of think black smoke. Lots is people had called so we sent four pumps."

He added: “We didn’t know if the ride was attached to the electrics so we sent someone to turn off the power.

The burning material sent out uncomfortable smoke so the firefighters were wearing breathing apparatus.

The fire service is now working with the police to establish a cause of the fire.
