Probe after man collapses at rail station

THE Police Complaints Authority may be asked to investigate after a middle-aged man collapsed on the platform at Gillingham railway station and later died.

An ambulance crew was called to the station about 1.30am Saturday after a report that a man in his fifties had suffered a cardiac carrest.

A Kent Police spokesman said the man collapsed as he was being escorted from

a train. He had not been arrested. He died later in Medway Maritime Hospital.

The spokesman added: "As in all cases where death occurs in the presence of police officers, the Police Complaints Authority has been notified."

A spokesman for the Police Complaints Authority said their involvement

would depend on the outcome of a post mortem.

The man has not yet been identified.
