Pregnant woman flees house blaze

A pregnant woman had to flee from her burning house after her television caught fire.

The blaze happened in Grange Road, Gillingham, shortly before 2.30pm on Wednesday.

The woman was watching the television when it suddenly caught alight. The flames quickly spread, engulfing the entire ground floor of her home.

She managed to escape and was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.

Two crews from Medway fire station attended and brought the flames under control. Neighbouring properties were not evacuated.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "The flames spread very fast. Without the quick actions of the crews this could have been much worse. They certainly saved the day."
