Power-kiting all the rage

HUNDREDS of people attended the annual Teston Bridge Kite Festival near Maidstone at the weekend.

Local clubs gave impressive demonstrations of stunt kites and power-kiting whereby the power of the wind is harnessed to propel people along on large skateboards.

Weird and wonderful kiting creations were also on display, including a colourful giant kite shaped like a parrot. The children's workshop, where youngsters could have a go at making their own kites, was busy all day.

Kent County Council's countryside officer Chris Near, who organised the event, said: "The weather was dire on Saturday which was a real shame but then I suppose you can't control the weather. But on Sunday it was ideal. There was plenty of wind and everything seemed to go very well."
