"Not the innocent little angel" being portrayed by his mother. That's the view of many contributors to our SpeakOut page after a 10-year-old boy was able to download pornography on a school computer.

Some feel young Rhys Mateer knew exactly what he was doing when he typed the word "porn" into an internet search engine during an IT class at St Helen's Primary in Cliffe, near Rochester.

His mum Kerry blamed the school for failing to look after him properly.

But the majority of people on our SpeakOut think it is the child himself at fault and not the school.

Catherine Plummer, from Gillingham, said: "It is clear that this child went looking for inappropriate material - which is what children do. His mother feels this is all the school’s fault, however he already knew what to search for so it seems to me that the problems lie mainly at home."

Liz George, from Strood, said: "This 10-year-old is certainly not innocent and it seems to me he and his mum have a gripe about the school - I know my own children and those in the class I work in would not proudly go home and display such images to their parents.

"What we have here is a typical case of the shock factor and let's see what reaction I can provoke from mum."

Sherrie Dee Dockwray from Cliffe, said: "How many 10-year-olds would think to type 'porn' into a search engine? Should we really be blaming a school when they clearly would not encourage such things? Maybe it should be investigated closer to home?"

Cliffe's Micky West said: "It's a shame there was a problem with the ICT suite and also a shame that some children feel they want to look at porn. Most kids would be more worried of the punishment of such actions."

Adam Smith from Rochester said: "This boy is not the innocent little angel he is being made out to be by his mother. In the old days children would look up rude words in dictionaries. These days they type them into a search engine.

"So the real question is how is his mother going to punish him for doing something that he was not supposed to be doing?"
