Police van in crash

An investigation is under way into an accident involving a police van.

One person had to be cut free by firefighters after the crash between the van and a car on the outskirts of Ramsgate on Saturday.

The accident at the Foads Hill junction in Cliffs End closed the A299 Canterbury Road West in both directions for over three hours.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.45pm and fire crews had to use hydraulic equipment to cut free the female passenger of a Vauxhall Astra.

She was taken to the QEQM hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The male police officer, who was driving on blue lights at the time of the accident, also suffered minor injuries. A police dog in the van was unhurt.

The A299 was closed between the Lord of the Manor roundabout and the Thorne Hill junction until 6pm.

A spokesman for Kent Police said it is now investigating the incident.
