Police have closed down a brothel operating from a house in Gillingham.

Officers took action after complaints about the premises in Milton Road, a residential street close to a primary school and nursing homes.

The brothel was subject to police enquiries on Tuesday, after a worried member of the public contacted the Medway Messenger.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: “Over the last few weeks I have phoned police over a dozen times. I know someone who lives there and kept seeing a stream of men going in, and they are not happy about it.”

The premises were still believed to be in business during the day on Wednesday, but police went back there that night and shut it down.

After the raid, police issued the following statement: “Medway police have shut down a property that was operating as an illegal brothel in Gillingham. A member of the public alerted police to the address and following enquiries, the property has been issued with a notice of closure with immediate effect.”

Medway Messenger staff investigating the story called the business before it closed and were offered services for £30, £40 or £50 with sex priced at £120 for an hour.
