AN INVESTIGATION is underway in to an alleged kidnap centreing around a Kent village.

Police have confirmed a man raised the alarm on Wednesday, alleging he had been kidnapped and brought to disused buildings in Duck Lane, Shadoxhurst, outside Ashford, before managing to escape.

Around 70 officers, some armed and wearing balaclavas and what appeared to be body armour, swooped on the village on Wednesday lunchtime, taping off a large area while inquiries continued.

The Essex Police helicopter was also brought in, along with dog units and special search teams.

They remained at the scene through to the evening and there was still a police presence in Duck Lane on Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Rosy Alexander said: "A man has made an allegation that he was kidnapped outside of Kent and brought to disused buildings in Shadoxhurst. It appears he escaped and alerted police. An investigation is continuing."
