Police officer injured as he stops car in Southborough

This CCTV footage shows a man police want to speak to after an officer was rammed by a car he was trying to stop.

The images from a kebab shop in Southborough were recorded shortly before the policeman was struck by a vehicle about to drive out of Springfield Road.

The officer, who was on patrol with a colleague, stood in front of the car but it drove towards him, with the officer landing on the bonnet.

His colleague and a member of the public chased after the car, finding the policeman unconscious in the road about 300 yards away.

The vehicle is believed to be a silver Vauxhall, possibly an Astra with a 55 number plate.

The driver is described as white with receding short black hair, about 5ft 6ins and in his mid 20s. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark hooded top.

The police officer was bruised in the incident but not seriously injured.

Anyone who recognises the description of the car or the driver or who saw what happened is asked to contact DS Karen Festing at Kent Police on 01732 379141. Alternatively, call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
