Police name woman in hit-and-run horror

A 22-year-old woman has died in hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.

The victim, Hazel Griffin, who was a passenger in a Renault Clio, lived in Swanley, near Dartford.

She was stepping out from the parked Renault in Hatherley Road, Sidcup, on Tuesday night when the van drove into her at about 9.10pm. She was taken to Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup by ambulance but died at about 1.30am today.

The hit-and-run driver is thought to have driven an open-back van which may have been carrying fence panels. The driver crashed into the woman and then sped off towards Sidcup High Street.

Hazel worked as an administrative clerk at an insurance company in Sidcup. She had a boyfriend and did not have children.

She had been out with her colleagues on the night of her death. They had been on their monthly night out together and had enjoyed a meal and trip to the cinema.

Police say Hazel’s family and friends are devastated and distraught at her death. They are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone the Collision Investigation Unit and Catford Traffic Garage on 020 8285 1574 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
