Police close road after collision

One of Medway's businest roads was closed during Tuesday afternoon's rush-hour after a collision between a car and a van.

The incident happened shortly before 4pm on Maidstone Road at its junction with Laker Road, Rochester.

A crew from Strood fire station was called to the scene to make the damaged van safe and police closed the road as a safety precaution.

The clean up took more than an hour with the fire crew leaving shortly before 5.30pm.

Paramedics also attended but there are not thought to be any serious injuries.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to the scene at about 4pm.

"The van was in an unstable position so we had to make it safe."
