Police close pub after reports of disorder

A PUB in the county has been shut by police after a planned operation involving 70 officers on Friday night.

Around 75 people were ejected from the Shire Horse pub in Canterbury Road, Murston, near Sittingbourne, at 9.45pm.

Officers used powers under the Licensing Act in a bid to curb the numerous acts of disorder, violence, loutish behaviour and under-age drinking at the pub.

Two people were arrested and police say they will be getting in touch with the parents of 12 young people suspected of under-age drinking.

CI Ian Hall said: "A number of complaints in relation to this pub have been received by police and we are keen to take the action necessary to make life better for those who work, live and visit the area.

"This is not about persecuting licensees, we want to work with them to create an environment where people not only feel safe, but are safe."
