Plan for homes at old milk depot turns sour

A PROPOSAL to re-develop a former milk depot into new houses and flats at Stone, near Dartford, has been criticised by local residents.

More than 100 people have signed a petition expressing concern at Crest Nicholson's plans to build a three-storey block of 12 flats and nine houses at an old Unigate site. Derek Kent, who lives on Lingfield Avenue, said: "We appreciate the depot is going to be developed, but it is the flats which are the biggest concern. I think it would seriously over-shadow the road."

Concerns have also been raised about the number of new cars the development would bring to the area.

David Phillips, whose home on Dewlands Avenue would be situated behind the development, has met with Crest representatives and presented the petition to Dartford Council. He said: "I have lived here for 50 years and my feelings are very strong. We have enjoyed privacy in that time and I want to retain that.

"The meetings we have had with Crest have been constructive and I am sure our concerns will be taken into account."

A spokesman for Crest said: "The redevelopment of the Unigate site will see the area significantly enhanced to the benefit of new and existing residents.

"We have had discussions with local residents to ensure that reasonable opinions and concerns, including those relating to privacy, are properly addressed and will continue to do so."
