Pictures: Blaze guts home in Stanhope

A woman has been arrested after a home in Stanhope was completely gutted by a fire.

Six fire engines were called to the blaze in Neweneden Close, shortly before 5.30pm yesterday.

The fire had completely engulfed the terraced property and had spread to the roof of the house next door when they arrived on the scene.

Residents from eight neighbouring homes were evacuated while 35 firefighters from Ashford, Charing, Cranbrook, Folkestone and Wye tackled the blaze for nearly three hours.

Kent police and a Red Cross victim support unit were also in attendance. Fortunately no one was injured.

A 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson.
