An elderly man was flown to hospital with serious facial injuries after a DIY accident at his home in Chatham.

The 78-year-old was flown by the Kent Air Ambulance, to Kings College Hospital, London, after the incident, which happened in the Lordswood area on Friday, June 27.

It is not clear how the man’s injuries were caused, but he is believed to have been using 'some sort of machinery'.

The air ambulance was called by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, (SECAS) who were initially sent out to help the elderly man.

The helicopter landed nearby at about 10.25am and doctors were able to give the man emergency treatment before he was flown to the major trauma centre at the hospital in Denmark Hill.
