A 72-year-old female driver has been arrested and bailed by police investigating a road crash in which a male pedestrian died.

She was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 50-year-old man was in collision with her Toyota Corolla on the pavement near a primary school in Towncourt Lane, Petts Wood, near Bromley at 3pm on Thursday.

The man, a father-of-two who lived locally, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at about 3.20pm.

The 72-year-old woman from Sidcup was interviewed after being treated at the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, for shock and released on bail until June.

A silver Peugeot was also involved in the incident, shortly before nearby Crofton Juniors finished for the day, but none of its passengers needed hospital treatment.

Both vehicles are being examined by police.

Towncourt Lane and Crofton Lane were closed until shortly before 9.30pm.
