A pensioner faces jail after being convicted of engaging in sexual activity in front of a schoolgirl on a train.

Leonard Dye, 85, of St Mary’s Road, Greenhithe, had denied the offence but a jury found him guilty.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the schoolgirl was 15 and travelling on a train from Greenhithe to Gravesend on July 16, 2009.

Dye sat diagonally opposite her and started staring. The teenager then noticed Dye was performing a sex act on himself.

The jury convicted him by a majority verdict of 11 to 1 after four-and-a-half hours deliberation.

Dye was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court, together with offences involving indecent photographs and indecent assault.

The court was told that British Transport Police will be applying for a sexual offences prevention order to include restrictions on Dye’s train travel.
