After a tight reader vote, Paul Coates from C & C Builders in Broadstairs has been chosen as Chandlers Building Supplies 'Star Builder 2009.'

For the past week Thanet Extra readers have been busy voting for either Mark Avery, Simon Garrett and Alan Foreman from County Construction or Paul.

The idea behind the Star Builder award was to recognise and reward our local tradesmen and women who consistently work hard and complete projects to a high standard.

Paul Coates was delighted to accept the award. He said:

"It's an honour and a shock to win and I'd like to thank everyone that voted for me.

"There are a lot of good builders out there and it's a shame that you only ever hear about the bad. I'm pleased to accept this on behalf of the building industry and all good tradesmen and women."

Martin Goldsmith, Branch Supervisor at Chandlers, presented Paul with an engraved Silver Star award together with £200 to spend at the branch. Martin commented:

"From the nominations received it is clear that there are fantastic tradesmen and women in the local area who are really appreciated. It's a pleasure to present Paul with his award and we are hoping that this campaign will help to show that not all builders deserve the reputation that is often given to them."
