Parents council established

A PARENTS council has been set up to ensure a comprehensive school touted to become an academy gets the best for its pupils.

The newly-formed council met as Lord Andrew Adonis, a minister for education, decides if the proposals for Axton Chase School in Main Road to become a academy specialising in science and arts should go ahead.

The proposals have been put forward by sponsors Kent County Council, University of Kent and The Leigh Academy Trust.

Initial plans sparked opposition among many parents and staff but now the Parents Council hopes if the academy proposals are agreed they will be able to work with the sponsors to address specific issues.

All parents are invited to get involved and the next meeting will be held at the Learning Resource Centre at the Main Road school on Wednesday, September 17 from 7pm.
