Pair stranded in boat as tide recedes

A man and a woman have been stranded on a boat just off Port Werburgh near Hoo St Werburgh.

The tide is still receding and it is thought the pair may be trapped on the boat until 11pm tonight.

Medway Coastguard are on scene 'observing' the boat.

It is as yet unclear whether the couple have a mobile phone or radio on board the rib, a long inflatable boat.

A Medway Coastguard spokesman said they would perform a mud rescue should either of them look to be suffering from cold or injury.

Richard Rodgers, deputy station officer, said at around 4pm: "We got a call about 20 minutes ago, the tide is still going out and they could be there until 10 or 11pm."

Strood firefighters are also at the scene.
