Operation Stack stood down at midnight

OPERATION Stack, which turned the coastbound side of the M20 into a lorry park for a number of hours yesterday, was stood down at about midnight last night.

Weather conditions yesterday restricted the number of ferry services available at the Port of Dover.

Coastguards said sea conditions at Dover yesterday were so bad that tugs were helping ferries to dock. And as delays worsened, and lorry queues lengthened on the M20.

Blustery westerly winds, gusting up to 40 mph, were forecast for this morning.
